5/3 Join Motorcycle Classics at the 3rd Annual Legend of the Motorcycle Concours d’Elegance. This world-class motorcycling event, centered on a judged exhibit of over 200 historic bikes, will once again be held on the grounds of the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Half Moon Bay, Calif. (south of San Francisco). It will also feature the Bonhams & Butterfields auction, which will include the Michael Corbin Collection featuring over 20 cycles. 5/17 Make plans to visit the 9th Annual Riding into History, which includes the Concours d’Elegance, the ever-popular Biker’s Ball, Charity Rides and more. Riding into History returns to the World Golf Village near St. Augustine, Fla., May 17-18. Proceeds will benefit Buddy Check 12, the breast cancer early detection charity. The Grand Marshal for 2008 is Mert Lawwill, the 1969 AMA Grand National Champion as well as one of the top professionals on the AMA national circuit during the 1960s and 1970s. This year will celebrate “Racy Competition Bikes,” a category that includes vintage bikes ridden for road racing, motocross, flat track racing and trials. Between 300 and 400 antique, vintage and classic motorcycles from all over the country are expected. Admission is just $10 at the gate for the Concours. Various packages are available for the Concours, Biker’s Ball and Charity Rides, which are posted on the website. 5/18 The 7th Annual British & European Classic Motorcycle Day will feature the Triumph marque, and will take place at Butler’s Orchard in Germantown, Md. Last year’s Concours featured about 200 bikes, and this year’s should be even bigger. Vintage trials demonstrations, the Noon Rev-O-Lee (the “battle of the bike sounds”) and more should make for a great day. On the web at www.classicmotorcycleday.org
