Last May, we tested the Scala Rider Q2 Bluetooth Headset from Cardo systems and came away impressed. Easy to use and with excellent audio quality, we couldn’t find much wrong with it. Cardo has just announced an updated version, the Q2 Multiset, featuring MP3 jacks and pre-paired for immediate use.

With the Multiset you’re buying a pair of headsets. That’s usually what you’re going to want anyway, right? So it makes sense for Cardo to package two units together. And the fact they’re pre-paired should make it that much easier to start talking. Just charge the headset and you’re ready to go. Plus, the addition of an MP3 jack will likely appeal to a large number of touring-minded riders, although to this day I have reservations about listening to music when you should be riding. Regardless, we know it’s a bonus many people will enjoy.

 

This might not seem like a big step, but it is a rational and desirable evolution of Cardo’s excellent bike-to-bike communications system. Our earlier review impressed us with how well the Scala Rider Q2 works, and as the system remains otherwise the same, we expect the new Multiset to be even more appealing to riders looking for easy rider-to-passenger or bike-to-bike communication with Bluetooth technology, with the added benefit of cell phone connectivity and in-helmet GPS voice instruction.

    I recently purchased the Scala Ryder Q2 Multiset. The first set I received would not let one of the headsets initiate talking to the other headset. Contacts with Cardo were very helpful, but did not solve the problem. I easily was able to return the product and another set was ordered. That set did not have the initiation problem, BUT in trying to use our cell phones which ARE bluetooth compatible, you don't know if someone is calling you because the speakers don't ring! Cardo was called and they said that apparently the headset only will respond to certain types of signals from phones that match what it uses, whatever that is! We have the LG UX260. So we are out of luck hearing phone calls coming in. Everything else works very nicely. A list of phones that are compatible with the Scala Ryder Q2 Multiset needs to be published so that people don't get stuck with not being able to use that feature.
