When Britbikes ruled the world

Back in 1951, young men with gasoline in their veins wanted nothing more than a fast British twin (well, nothing we’re going to talk about here anyway).

These four young lads were proud of their British iron, and were more than happy to pose for the above photo, taken in Janesville, Wis., in the summer of 1951, as they gathered to head out for a ride.

From left to right, that’s Jim Walter on his BSA and Dick Munz, Curt Judd and Jerry Cox on their Triumphs. Check out Curt’s wild bobber-style headlights!

Jim Walter was kind enough to submit this photo. “Cox and me are still in contact. We had our 45th high school reunion two years ago,” he wrote. “I don’t know what ever happened to Munz and Judd. Maybe they’re still bikers and they’ll see this!”

Guys, if you’re still out there, write us here or e-mail lhall@motorcycleclassics.com. We’d love to put you back in touch with your old riding buddies!
