Get ready for Road America 2013!

 Broughton Sheboygan Marsh Park
Riders in the Motorcycle Classics Ride & Show line up for a group photo below the 40-foot observation tower at Broughton Sheboygan Marsh Park during the 2013 Road America Motorcycle Classic.

Join Motorcycle Classics at the 4th Annual Road America Vintage Motorcycle Classic, June 7-9, 2013, at Road America race track in Elkhart Lake, Wis. Nicknamed “America’s National Park of Speed,” Road America has legendary status in the American racing scene, the four-mile road circuit drawing world-class racing since it was built in 1955.

Vintage motorcycle racing returns for 2013, with rounds 9 and 10 of the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association (AHRMA)/CPL Systems National Historic Cup Roadrace series, plus the classic bike swap meet and club corrals. We’ll be there as we have from the beginning, hosting the Motorcycle Classics Ride & Show, which typically draws around 50-60 great vintage bikes. We kick off with a leisurely 40-mile ride through the surrounding Wisconsin countryside, and end with our show. If you haven’t been there before, Road America is smack in the middle of Wisconsin’s famed Kettle Moraine, a glacially formed geological oddity defined by sudden depressions and hidden valleys. It’s great riding, with breathtaking scenery and spectacular roads.

Registration for the Motorcycle Classics Ride & Show starts at 8 a.m. on Saturday, June 8, so make sure to get there early. The ride leaves at noon, and while we always encourage everyone to ride, you don’t have to ride to show your bike. Judging starts at 2 p.m., with our awards ceremony starting at 4 p.m. Trophies for Best Rider and Best Restored will be given in each of five classes including European, British, Japanese, American and Custom, plus we’ll award our annual Editor’s Choice trophy. The entry fee is $30 and includes a 1-year subscription to Motorcycle Classics and a Motorcycle Classics T-shirt. Additional bikes are $5 each.

Better yet, four people will take it in for free in the Motorcycle ClassicsRoad America Vintage Motorcycle Classic sweepstakes. The winner gets event tickets for four and two-night lodging at the Blue Harbor Resort on Lake Michigan.

The sweepstakes ends April 30, so sign up now for the Motorcycle ClassicsRoad America Vintage Motorcycle Classic sweepstakes.See you there!

Built to Last BUILD Moto Mentor Program kicks off third season

MILWAUKEE (April 2, 2013) – On Feb. 15, students and mentors started the clock on a 100-day project that will result in fully restored vintage motorcycles and a life-changing experience. BUILD Moto Mentor Program Ltd. is a non-profit educational outreach program established in 2011 by Tim Dixon, owner of The Iron Horse Hotel, in conjunction with a team of dedicated volunteers and motorcycle enthusiasts. By connecting high school students with skilled mentors and faculty advisors, this after-school program offers students the opportunity to learn vintage bike restoration while developing important business, trade and interpersonal skills. Students are rewarded for their efforts through recognition and the display and eventual racing of their bikes. “We’re not only building bikes, we’re teaching valuable life skills to students,” says Tim Dixon, who developed the program in 2011 after noticing “the unfortunate disappearing act that was happening to many shop programs throughout the nation.” Three teams comprised of five students each from area high schools and youth organizations have been chosen to fully restore a “barn--find condition” vintage race bike to American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association (AHRMA) standards during a 100-day build.

Built to Last BUILD Moto Mentor Program

This year’s teams include: Bradley Technology and Trade High School (Milwaukee), St. Francis High School (St. Francis, Wis.) and Running Rebels Community Organization of Milwaukee (Milwaukee). Each team is provided with a barn-find condition vintage motorcycle and a total budget of $2,000 to execute the restoration. Teams will be judged by regional experts in the following categories: “Performance” (chassis dynamometer competition), “Art Bike” (on-site crowd judging) and “Facebook Favorite” (social media-driven voting).

Summer Tour: The bikes will be displayed and raced over the summer of 2013, beginning May 30 at The Iron Horse Hotel.

• 2013 Bike Night kick off at The Iron Horse Hotel – May 30
• AHRMA Vintage Classic at Elkhart Lake – June 7-9
• Grattan Raceway Park – June 14 &15
• Official BUILD Moto Mentor display at Discovery World – July 1-29
