Ace Cafe Summer Shakedown Logo

A bit of Britain is coming to the U.S. Aug. 24-26, 2012, as England’s fabled Ace Café teams up with the newly opened LeMay car museum for Meet at the Ace – A Summer Shakedown 2012, one of the signature events to debut at the new four-level, 165,000-square-foot Tacoma museum. Motorcycle Classics editor-in-chief Richard Backus will be on hand along with former Cycle World editor David Edwards, the Ace Café’s Mark Wilsmore, and motorcycle journalists Robert Smith and Mark Gardiner acting as judges for the premier event.

Awards will be presented in 12 different classes plus 1st through 3rd Judges’ Choice and 1st through 3rd People’s Choice. Any motorcycle or scooter 1980 or older qualifies for the show. There will also be a swap meet, motorcycle-themed movies, panel discussions, a slideshow retrospective with the Ace Café’s Mark Wilsmore, a beer garden, food, and live music. There’s also a scheduled “Ride to Rainier” on Sunday for vintage bikes only. Fight Childhood Cancer and Win a 1975 Suzuki GT750M

1975 Suzuki GT750M
Win this 1975 Suzuki GT750M and support research to cure Neuroblastoma, a cancer afflicting young children.

Motorcycle Classics reader and friend of the magazine Bill Hawley is donating his custom 1975 Suzuki GT750M to be raffled off at the Kruzin 4 Kids Car & Bike Celebration Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012. All proceeds from the raffle go to benefit Melina’s White Light, a charity to help research a cure for Neuroblastoma, an aggressive cancer most commonly associated with infants and children under the age of 5.

The show will be held at Eastern Hills Mall in Williamsville, N.Y., and will feature hot rods, motorcycles, a swap meet, food, live music, vendors and much more. Pre-show registration is $20 ($25 the day of the show), and includes entry to the event and lunch. Raffles tickets are only $5, and the winner need not be present to win. Raffle tickets can be purchased at melinaswhitelight.org, and you can also follow the group’s Facebook page for more information. Hats off to Bill for materially supporting this worthwhile charity, and to everyone who supports Melina’s White Light by purchasing a raffle ticket. – Richard Backus
