A Year of Classic Motorcycle Restoration

Have something you'd like to share with your fellow Motorcycle Classics readers? Maybe it's a touring story, bike review or helpful tip you've gleaned from experience. Whatever it is, we want you to write about it and send it in. Just email Associate Editor Landon Hall with the subject line "MC Dispatch" and you might see your story here.

I’m compelled to write as your publication has inspired, motivated and encouraged me to pursue a hobby of resurrecting dead bones to fun and functional motorcycles. Here is a list of my 2010 classic motorcycle restoration projects:

My first project this year was a 1987 BMW K75S, followed by the 1982 Moto-Guzzi you so graciously featured in your Readers Rides column.

Then came a 1983 Yamaha XS650 Heritage converted to my interpretation of a classic roadster. And then a 1984 Yamaha Virago putting a little more cruiseresque into the classic Japanese cruiser.

And finally my latest project making a soft street-fighter from a Yamaha XS400 Seca, a work in progress, but soon to be ready for prime time.

I feel I have become obsessed with the building, restoring and modifying these old relics always with the intent to make it my personal final best ride only to realize they are all great rides and the next best thing is there waiting for me on Craigslist or eBay or in the local classifieds.

And I owe this passion and enthusiasm to you. Eagerly awaiting your next issue and build project!
