Looking back, it's easy to think the first Gold Wing in 1975 was a revolutionary motorcycle. It was, in fact, evolutionary, built to appeal to the American bigger-is-better theory. Today, the Gold Wing is an icon of cross-country touring. But back in the day, it was juts Honda's best guess at what Americans wanted in a big road bike.

The beefiest of Honda’s middleweights was the CB550 Four. A smooth, capable machine based on the CB750 introduced in 1969, it was decidedly old-school and hardly the machine to entice a new generation of riders. Enter the CX500.

In 1983, turbocharging was the wave of the motorcycle future. And while the Honda CX650 Turbo was arguably the best of the turbocharged bikes that roared onto roads in the early Eighties, it is now one of the rarest production Hondas ever, with only 1,777 built and fewer than 1,200 imported to the U.S. and Canada.

In 1983, 100hp was fairly heady stuff. That's what Honda claimed for its wild liquid-cooled, turbocharged V-twin CX650T, one of the best of the boost bikes from Japan.
