This is a complete technical, model-by-model history of BMW's most popular motorcycle; the BMW GS. Ranging the full 30 years of GS history, the authors write in-depth about each and every model of the GS, including the R 80 basic, the R 850 GS, the F 650 GS and all the way to the R 1200 GS Adventure Series 2 with the 2009 model updates. This book includes a chapter on GS sidecars that includes both two- and four-valvers. With historical and full-color photographs and diagrams, this is much more than a motorcycle book; it is a guide to the motorcycle that invented modern adventure touring. About the authors: Hans-Jurgen Scheider has ridden every GS model since the first one debuted in 1980. After several years as the motorcycle editor of one of Germany's most prestigious magazines, Auto Zeitung, he became a freelancer and later formed is own publishing company, Schnieder Text. He currently resides in France. Dr. Axel Koenigsbeck lives in Wuppertal, Germany. He is a freelance writer with an interest in sidecars and unusual motorcycles. He collects German and Japanese motorcycles.
