 2013 Nepal Riders Reunion
Bikes line up for a break at the first Enfield & Vintage Rider's Reunion in Nepal.

Proof that interest in vintage motorcycles continues to grow comes from an unlikely corner of the world, Nepal, where Vintage Motorcycle Club Nepal just held its first show, the Enfield & Vintage Rider’s Reunion, May 31-June 1, 2013. According to club president Julian Shrestcha, this was the first time this type of event has been held in Nepal, and judging by the photos he sent, it attracted a fair amount of attention.

According to Julian, the club has received strong international support, with staff from the U.N., the World Bank and a few embassies helping him get it established. Interest has since been high, and Julian says this first reunion garnered support from Castrol and Rak Airways, plus other local businesses.

Julian says the rally, which included a time-speed-distance event, is a totally new concept for the small country. Based on the success of this first event, he predicts more and bigger events to come and thinks the event will go a long ways toward inspiring motorcyclists in Nepal to keep and restore their older bikes. “In Nepal, people don’t know the value of classic motorcycles,” Julian says. Best of Show went to a 1952 BSA Bantam while the Best Customized award went to a chopped 1970 Royal Enfield Bullet, complete with ape hanger bars and hand shift. Righteous.
