1. The Stormrider Suit from Nelson Rigg is an affordable, well-made two-piece motorcycle rain suit that features a soft polyester outer shell with a PVC backing. The jacket features a full-length zipper with a Velcro storm flap, two large outer pockets, cooling vents under the arms, a corduroy inner collar with a hood and a draw cord at the waist. The sleeves have Velcro-adjustable cuffs. The pants feature an elastic waist, and the bottoms of the legs feature elastic, along with oversized zipper gussets and elastic boot stirrups. The suit carries a two-year warranty and is available in black/black, black/red and black/hi-visibility yellow, in sizes S-4XL. Price: $54.95. More info: Competition Accessories. Check out the Image Gallery for photos of each motorcycle rain suit.

2. If you live in the Northwest or anywhere where the riding season and the rainy season line up way too often, check out the Tour Master Sentinel, a serious motorcycle rain suit ready for your next wet commute or tour. Both pieces are made with a waterproof and breathable Rip Stop Nylon shell with sealed seams, 3M Scotchlite reflective piping and reflective triangles for increased nighttime visibility. The jacket features an Aqua-Barrier under-the-helmet hood to help eliminate seepage in the collar area. The hood easily stows in a hidden collar pocket. A self-contained pouch allows the jacket to stuff into itself for convenient storage. There are also three large waterproof bellows pockets to maximize carrying capacity, along with waterproof zippered underarm exhaust vents to allow warm air to exit from the jacket interior. There’s a jacket-to-pant zipper, a draw cord at the waist and elastic cuffs with Velcro closures on the sleeves. The Sentinel Rainsuit Pants feature waterproof and breathable stretch material panels above the knees and in the inseam for flexibility and comfort, and heat-resistant panels at the ankles. A high-density nylon seat panel gives added strength and minimizes slipping, along with a four-panel knee design to provide increased comfort in the riding position. An elastic waistband and zippered and gusseted leg cuffs with Velcro allow easy entrance and exit. The jacket is available in black, red, blue and yellow; the pants in black only. Price: $94.99 (jacket), $64.99 (pants).

3. Frogg Toggs makes rain gear for all kinds of outdoor activities, including boating, hunting and motorcycling. The new Highway Toadz suit combines the best of the original highway suit from Frogg Toggs with the new performance of ToadSkinz materials. The end result is a terrific blend of function and easy access combined with lighter weight and improved breathability and durability. The ToadSkinz Reflective pants are constructed from the same high-performance material and feature fully sealed and taped waterproof seams. The leg openings are adjustable and oversized to make them easy to get on and off over boots. There’s an adjustable elastic waistband with an adjustable belt and quick-release buckle, along with Frogg Eyzz reflective piping, reflective boot strips, removable elastic spats to hold leggings down in the wind and rain, and articulated knees for superior comfort. We wore a set during a recent all-day ride in the rain and they performed excellently. The jacket and pants are now sold separately, and the jacket is available in red clay/black/reflective silver, black/reflective silver, safety green/black/reflective silver, dust blue/black/reflective silver and steel gray/black/reflective silver. The pants are available in black. Sizes S-2X. Price: $79.95 (jacket), $59.95 (pants).

4. This might be the best deal going in motorcycle rain suits today. The Joe Rocket RS-2 two-piece rain suit gives you both a jacket and pants for less than $65 (if you search around the Internet), and it feels built to last. Both pieces are made with a 100 percent waterproof soft polyester outer shell with a PVC backing and feature reflective striping. The jacket features a full-length zipper with a Velcro storm flap and a soft corduroy collar lining. There is a full nylon comfort liner, an elastic waist and Velcro adjustable cuffs. The pants have an elastic waist and cuffs, plus stirrups at the bottom of the pants legs, and a leg zipper gusset for easy entry, even wearing boots. There’s also melt-resistant material on the legs where you are most likely to bump an exhaust pipe. Available in black, black/red, black/yellow and HiViz Neon. Price: $69.99. More info: Competition Accessories

5. The only thing better than good, high-quality rain gear that works when you need it is rain gear that doesn’t take up much space. The Quick Seal Out jacket and pants from Alpinestars come packed together in their own neat little stuff sack about the size of a medium thermos. Though fairly thin and lightweight, both pieces feel well-made. The jacket features elasticized cuffs and a double flap closure on the main zipper to keep water from working its way in through the front. There are also adjusters on both sides of the jacket to customize the fit, along with a tall collar and a drawstring at the neck to keep things dry. The pants feature a simple draw cord at the waist along with several strips of hook-and-loop material at the bottoms of the legs so that the pants can be slipped on easily over large motorcycle boots, then tightened so they don’t flap in the breeze. Although it’s not the motorcycle rain suit we’d grab for serious touring duty, if you’re simply looking for rain gear to put in your bag “just in case,” this is the stuff. Available in bright yellow or black. Price: $109.95.

6. The High-N-Dry two-piece rain suit from River Road is the brand’s high-end model. It’s a lighter-duty suit than some featured here, but that also means it packs tighter and will take up less space in your luggage. Speaking of storage, there are two pockets on the front of the jacket and one on the pants. Features include a lightweight nylon shell with a dual storm flap at the front and a hook-and-loop closure over the zipper. The jacket has a full mesh lining and a vented back. The pants feature removable suspenders, snap-on boot straps at the bottom of the legs, and elastic cuffs with gussets and zippers to help entry and exit over boots. There is a heavy-duty reinforced seat panel, and reflective stripes run across the front and back of the jacket and down each pant leg to aid nighttime visibility. Price: $99.95.
