The 1-mile dirt oval flattrack racetrack in Springfield, Ill., is the absolute Mecca of motorsports. Once a year riders from across the country meet up on the fastest mile in the United States for some handlebar-to-handlebar 100+mph sideways motorcycle racing action, and Casper, Wyo., resident Jake Latimer won it.

Right from the start of the day his motorcycle was fast. Just a few clicks on the rear shocks after practice and it was on to the first qualifying heat race.

Pulling the hole-shot and winning the heat race left Latimer with the pole position for the final main event. Once the green flag dropped, Latimer was never challenged, leading every lap and setting a new track record in the process of winning the famous race.
After a short break in the race schedule it’s off for three weeks to the Sacramento (California) Mile July 29, then Sturgis, S.D., August 6-9, and the Kansas fair series August 10-14.

Jake Latimer said he’s been faster than ever with the GAZI’s Hyper X’s on his Trackmaster frame.
