The 31st Annual Dana Point Concours d’Elegance broke attendance records on Sunday, June 23, as thousands made their pilgrimage to Southern California’s premier collector car and motorcycle event held at the oceanfront Monarch Beach Golf Links, adjacent St. Regis Monarch Beach. Visitors enjoyed a fine art exhibition, vintage aircraft flyover and nearly 240 collector cars and motorcycles before judges crowned a 1933 Packard Series 1005 Convertible Coupe owned by Aaron Weiss of San Marino, Calif. as “Best of Show.” One of the most recognizable personalities in the collector car hobby, Meguiar’s president and “Car Crazy” television host, Barry Meguiar, received the 2013 Automotive Icon Award.
The Orange County Collector Car and Motorcycle Week which features the Concours, hot rod show, reception and a rally at Camp Pendleton, collectively hosted approximately 15,000 guests across the multi-day event. This celebration not only saluted our automotive heritage, but also the U.S. Marine Corps.

“It’s been an absolutely amazing week filled with activities shared by great friends in their cars and motorcycles,” said Jeff Spellens, president of the Dana Point Concours d’Elegance. “It was our most memorable event, which attracted automotive and motorcycle enthusiasts worldwide. This year was particularly special working with Marine Corps charities Semper Fi Fund, MARSOC (U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Special Operations Command) Foundation and the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation as well as our hosts at Camp Pendleton for the Rallye Basilone Historic Tour. We’re pleased to have generated support for these important Marine Corps charities.”
Meguiar was recognized as an Automotive Icon because he embodies the spirit and passion of the automotive community. He tirelessly promotes the hobby through his TV show, “Car Crazy” seen on Discovery’s Velocity Channel and his radio show; charity work; and as a representative at enthusiast events around the world. “I’m honored to receive this award,” said Meguiar. “The Dana Point Concours d’Elegance is one of my favorite events. I’ve grown up around cars, and I’m committed to educating all generations about the importance of the collector car hobby.”
The Best of Show 1933 Packard earned top awards in its class and then among all the entrants due to its impeccable styling, quality restoration and overall condition. In the motorcycle class, Best of Show was presented to Mitch Talcove of Carlsbad, Calif., for his 1969 Munch Mammoth because of its originality, restoration detail and mechanical perfection.
This year’s Featured Marque Award was bestowed to the 1933 Duesenberg Model J owned by A&A Premier Classics in West Hollywood, Calif. The vehicle embodies elegance and engineering, making the Great Classic era one of the most admired periods in automotive history.
