If you’d been thinking it could be fun to enter the 16-day, 4,150-mile 2014 Cannonball Endurance Run, a ride open only to motorcycles built before 1937, you’re out of luck. Even at $2,500 each, available spots for the run sold out months ago, leaving dreamers to, well, dream. But it turns out you might have one last shot at making this year’s run – all expenses paid including the supply of a 1936 Harley-Davidson Knucklehead and full support crew – if you buy the winning Golden Ticket in the recently announced Cannonball Golden Ticket Sweepstakes.
Here’s the gist of the deal, as explained in a letter from Matt Olsen, owner of the Harley Knucklehead you could ride and organizer of the sweepstakes:
Having ridden the Cannonball event, twice, I know from experience what an exciting event the Cannonball truly is! I am undertaking a low volume sweepstakes event to offer someone the opportunity to ride my 1936 H-D Knuckle on the 2014 Cannonball event.
The cannonball golden ticket is set up as a team fundraiser for the two 1936 ELs that were built and prepped by Carl’s Cycle Supply to compete in the 2014 Motorcycle Cannonball Endurance Run that takes place in September of 2014. The promotion runs from January 1, 2014, to June 29, 2014.
The first place prize is an all-expense paid trip on the Motorcycle Cannonball. The winner will get to ride Matt Olsen’s 1936 Harley Knucklehead from Florida to Washington on some of the nicest roads in America. The winner’s airplane tickets to and from the beginning and end of the race are covered, the $2,500 entrance fee is covered, the hotels are covered, there is a $60 per day food allowance and a $60 per day gas allowance. The team, consisting of Carl Olsen on his 1936 EL and the winner of the Cannonball Golden Ticket on Matt Olsen’s 1936 EL, will have a chase truck along the entire route headed up by Matt and Brittney Olsen to take care of the mechanical maintenance on both bikes, carry both riders luggage and do whatever is possible to make the trip as simple and enjoyable as possible.
The second place prize is an all-expense paid trip from anywhere in the world to visit the Harley Davidson Museum in Milwaukee, Wis., with a private guided tour of the museum and power train factory as well as a behind the scenes look into the factory archives.
