The same weekend as Road America sees the 22nd Annual Heart of America Motorcycle Enthusiasts Vintage Motorcycle Rally at the National Airline History Museum in downtown Kansas City. The vintage airplane hangar at Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport is just a half-mile from downtown K.C., and the view of downtown out the hangar’s south door is incredible. The hangar would be cool even if it was empty, but loaded up with vintage airliners and a couple hundred vintage motorcycles it’s the coolest place we’ve seen to hold a vintage bike show.
This year’s show celebrates Seventies Superbikes, so we expect to see a jammin’ selection of vintage Japanese horsepower, along with the requisite big-bore Brits and Italians that helped define the decade. Trophies are awarded in 24 classes, with Motorcycle Classics awarding the trophy for People’s Choice. The weekend kicks off with a vintage ride-in block party in K.C.’s Crossroads arts district, and rally organizers are planning a Saturday party, as well. The show proper will be Sunday, June 9. If you’re within riding distance of Kansas City you won’t want to miss this.
