Vintage motorcycle racing returns to the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, for the 18th AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, July 24-26, 2009. The single biggest vintage motorcycle gathering of the year, this year’s event sees a shift in racing following the separation between the American Motorcyclist Association and AHRMA.

In the wake of a long-standing dispute between vintage race organization AHRMA and one of its founders, the AMA and AHRMA have dissolved their relationship, with the AMA ending its role as a sanctioning body for AHRMA racing. Recognizing that vintage racing is central to the event, the AMA has launched its own vintage race series for VMD, the AMA Racing Vintage Grand Championship, which will hold its inaugural race at VMD with vintage road racing, motocross, observed trials, hare and hound, and dirt track racing.
As ever, the event will include what’s easily the biggest classic motorcycle swap meet held anywhere — more than 35 acres! — along with demo rides from major manufacturers, a classic bike show, a classic bike ride, a special show just for café racers, seminars and stunt shows. BSA will be Marque of the Year, and AMA Hall of Famer and 1972 Daytona 200 winner Don Emde will serve as Grand Marshal.
The Woodstock of classic bike events, it’s a weekend not to be missed. Be there.
