Norb’s story: “I’ve been riding since 1964. My first new bike was a Harley-Davidson XLH Sportster.
“I saw your article in the March/April 2013 magazine and noticed the ‘future collectibles’ section regarding the 1980-1982 CB900C. I have a 1983 CB1000 Custom with the 10-speed dual-range gearbox and the four-into-four exhaust like the CB900. I’m curious as to whether the extra 100cc of displacement made a big change in performance and sales? Was it more along the lines of the ‘Bigger is Better’ mentality to keep up with the other Japanese cycle companies?
“I’ve made some cosmetic changes to the cycle. I added European handlebars to replace the buckhorn-style bars, a National Cycle Flyscreen, a solo seat using the original seat frame with new foam and leather, two extra headlights up front to make a three-across light system and some new mirrors.
“I get a lot of positive feedback from people when they see this bike. At 30 years old and only a one-year model run, is this a future collectible classic? The ride and styling lines are great.” MC
