The 8th Annual Bonneville Vintage GP, presented by Motorcycle Classics, is coming up fast. Held over the Labor Day weekend August 30-September 1, the Bonneville GP draws racers and race fans from across the country for great vintage racing at the incredible Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah, just west of Salt Lake City. Motorcycle Classics will host the annual Bonneville GP Vintage Motorcycle Show, with trophies awarded in seven categories. This year’s featured marque is Moto Guzzi, with Italian motorcycles taking center stage.
It will be another great weekend of vintage motorcycle racing as AHRMA racers compete in rounds 15 and 16 of the AHRMA/CPL Systems National Historic Cup Roadrace series. The ever popular Battle of the CB160s LeMans Start returns Saturday and Sunday, as does great sidecar racing.
A fairly new track (it was finished in 2006), Miller is one of our favorite race venues. That’s a sentiment clearly shared by the vintage race crowd, as evidenced by the exceptional turnout of racers every year. Its popularity comes as no surprise once you’ve been to Miller, thanks to an excellent track with modern facilities accommodating attendees and racers alike.
We suggest heading out early to catch at least one day of the annual BUB speed trials held on the famed Bonneville Salt Flats. The trials, which run August 24-29, are an excellent opportunity to witness vintage motorcycles vying to make their mark in the history books, and the sights and sounds of old Nortons, Vincents, BMWs and Hondas blasting across the salt has to be experienced at least once in every motorcyclist’s life.
