Although cold winter temps are here for most of the U.S. by now, that doesn’t mean all your moto-related fun has to come to a screeching halt. If you have the time and the means, two upcoming weekends in January are sure to be full of great gearhead goodness if you can make the trek to Florida.
The first event is a new one, or at least a return of sorts. AHRMA hasn’t ventured to the Daytona International Speedway for road racing since 2015, but they decided it was time to head on back, and they’re throwing one heck of a party while they’re at it.
The AHRMA Classic Motofest at Daytona takes place January 7-9, 2022, at the Daytona International Speedway. Look forward to three action-packed days of vintage and modern road racing on the famous Daytona road course and tri-oval, which has been the site of motorcycle racing since 1961.
The term “Superbike” is known around the world, and Superbike racing got its start at Daytona in 1976. Known for high handlebars, no fairings and big horsepower, we can’t wait to see these bikes and their riders back on track at Daytona. For the 2022 season, AHRMA is honoring the Daytona Superbike legacy by presenting Vintage Superbike Heavyweight as its featured vintage class, and the first race of the series will be on January 8, 2022, back at the place where it all started.
The weekend will also feature the first ever modern and vintage sidecar racing on Daytona’s famed, 31-degree high banks. Also on deck for the weekend are vintage and modern off-road racing featuring Vintage/Post-Vintage/Next-Generation Motocross, Cross Country and Dirt Track. Other weekend activities include the Laroque Motorsports Swap Meet and a vintage bike show. The swap meet and bike show in the Speedway infield, along with the Vendor Village, will take place Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Friday night will be the One AHRMA Street party, while Saturday evening’s highlight will be Vintage Dirt Track at the West Lot Short Track.
Three weekends later and almost 250 miles south, the 15th Annual Dania Beach Vintage Motorcycle Show will take place on January 29 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Frost Park. Past years have hosted more than 250 bikes in the show, along with live music, vendors, a swap meet, food, dealer exhibits and more. The event is free to the public, with a fee to enter your bike in the show. I hope you can check it out.
Cheers,
Landon
