Get ready for more great vintage motorcycle racing as AHRMA racers head to the Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah, for the 4th Annual Bonneville Vintage GP, presented by Motorcycle Classics, Sept. 4-6, 2009.

Building on a successful recipe laid down by organizer Tom Kullen for the first event in 2006, the 4th Annual Bonneville Vintage GP will once again combine great action on the track with a chance to watch vintage bikes roar across the famed Bonneville Salt Flats during the 6th Annual BUB Motorcycle Speed Trials, which give pro racers and novices alike the opportunity to test their mettle on the salt. Whether you’re into streamliners or seeing how fast a stock 1973 Honda CB350 — and the odd hot-rodded lawn mower in the “Run What You Brung” category — can run against the clock, the BUB speed trials aren’t to be missed.

The Bonneville GP is the seventh round in AHRMA’s 2009 calendar, and it’s become one of the top events of the year for vintage race fans and AHRMA racers. Built in 2006, the Miller track was penned by renowned track designer Alan Wilson (Wilson designed the Barber track, among others), who drew out a 4.5-mile road course that can be split into two, 2.2-mile courses. And while the track divides its time between motorcycle and car racing, Wilson, who has called the track “Barber on steroids,” had motorcycle racing on his mind when he laid out Miller; Wilson says that 80 percent of the track was designed specifically for motorcycles.

AHRMA racers love the Miller track, and the excellent grandstands give attendees an unimpeded view of the action as classic Nortons, Hondas and Benellis vie for top honors during two days of racing.

As before, we’ll be on hand Saturday hosting our annual Motorcycle Classics Vintage Motorcycle Show, and Honda CB160 racers will be there in force for Saturday and Sunday’s Battle Of The CB160s LeMans Start, a spectacle not to be missed as dozens of CB160 racers dash across the track, hop aboard and then bump start their bikes before blasting off around the track.
There’s also sidecar racing, a Legends Bikes parade lap, a police motorcycle competition (these guys are incredible), Doug Pollen 1-On-1 Riders School sessions, a swap meet and vendors set up around the paddocks. And some lucky stiff will head home with a custom, race-ready Honda CB160 built by Vicious Cycle in Portland, Ore., following the annual CB160 Raffle. More info on the raffle at www.bonnevillevintagegp.com. See you there! MC
