Honda Gold Wing expert Randall Washington of Randakk’s Cycle Shakk will join the Motorcycle Classics tent at the 12th Annual Barber Vintage Festival at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 7, 2016, to give a special tech seminar, “Vintage Motorcycle Carb Floats 101.” Working from his years of experience repairing and rebuilding vintage carburetors – he literally wrote the book on rebuilding GL1000/1100 carbs – Randall will share tips and tricks he’s learned including how to fix broken float posts.
The Randakk’s Cycle Shakk seminar will be just one of three held at the Motorcycle Classics tent over the three-day festival, which runs Oct. 7-9, 2016. First up at 1 p.m. on October 7 is Andrew Cathcart of Vee Two Australia, with a seminar on bevel drive engine design as used in the iconic Ducati V-twin. Cathcart, son of famed motojournalist Alan Cathcart, has extensive knowledge of the Ducati engine thanks to his efforts with Vee Two Australia, which has recently launched the Vee Two Ritorno Twin, an uprated and improved version of the final iteration of the famous Ducati bevel-drive V-twin.
Lubrication specialists Spectro Oils will hold a seminar at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 8, Understanding Motorcycle Oil for Vintage Motorcycles, sharing their extensive knowledge on engine oils with vintage motorcycle owners looking to understand what works in older bike engines and why. The subject goes beyond engine oil, including transmission lubricants and specialty 2-stroke oils.
At noon on Saturday vintage suspension specialist Matt Wiley of Race Tech Suspension will hold a seminar explaining the ins and outs of vintage suspension systems, Understanding and Improving Vintage Motorcycle Suspensions. Wiley has become something of the guru of vintage suspensions, lending his extensive knowledge and hands-on experience to helping racers and road riders alike get the best possible performance from their vintage bikes.
