Vintage dirt bike fans can look forward to another weekend of old school offroad racing and camaraderie at the All Brands Motorcycle Event at McKee’s Sky Ranch in Terra Alta, W.V., July 24-27, 2014.
Interest in vintage motocross racing continues to build in the U.S., reflected by increased participation from riders and growing crowds at races across the country. This will be the third year for AHRMA racing at McKee’s Sky Ranch, hosted by vintage bike enthusiast and former motocross racer Tom McKee at his 200-acre property located in the mountains of West Virginia. McKee, who has deep roots in the motorcycling community, was formerly the major organizing force behind the vintage side of MountainFest, a motorcycle extravaganza held in nearby Morgantown since 2004.
Those roots helped McKee when he enlisted two-time AMA Grand National Champion Dick Mann to design the inaugural 2012 event’s 1.2-mile natural terrain grass motocross course. 2013 brought even more legendary riders from the past, including former BSA superstar Jeff Smith, and the hits keep coming for 2014.
Sponsored by the West Virginia Division of Tourism, the West Virginia Motorcycle Safety Program and AHRMA, the 2014 event will continue the winning formula of great vintage offroad racing, with AHRMA National Vintage and Post Vintage Motocross competitions, and Cross Country races. The four-day, Thursday through Sunday event includes a swap meet and vintage motorcycle display, with a dual-sport ride kicking things off on Thursday and a road rally on Friday. Special guests include Ken Smith of Australia’s VMX magazine, former Triumph factory racer Bob Sholly, and Jack Penton, son of racing legend John Penton of Penton Motorcycles.
